Apple: How to Check your iPhone 6s has a TSMC or Samsung A9 chip

As we all know Apple has launched a pair of iPhone series smartphones with high-end features and specifications in the Apple iPhone September Event. Apple’s iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s plus are now available in India at variant price range depending on the three different storage variants. Apple has announced iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus with stunningly amazing features that include 3D Touch, 12MP Camera, A9 Chip and many more. Both the next-generation smartphones are designed with an A9 chipset which is the third generation of the 64-bit chip that comes with a new transistor architecture.

The duo handsets that has got this A9 chipset will be able to power the iPhones with 70 percent faster CPU and 90 percent faster graphics performance (GPU) than its previous A8 chip. Earlier, Apple has confirmed that it will be using two different sources for the A9 chip that are Samsung and TSMC. Both these chips offer the same computing and graphics power, but after testing them, they have shown slight variations in terms of battery. Now, the question is, Does your iPhone 6s have the TSMC or Samsung-built chip? Well, now I am going to guide you with simple steps on how to check whether your iPhone 6s have the TSMC or Samsung-built chip. Before that, let us know more about TSMC and Samsung-manufactured chip.

A9 Chipset is Dual-Sourced – Samsung & TSMC

The tech giant, Apple has used two different suppliers to build the Apple-designed ‘A9’ system-on-a-chip for the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. The two sources are Samsung and TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company). A9 chips manufactured by these two different suppliers slightly vary in size and indeed there are differences between the Samsung and TSMC made chips. It was found that the TSMC version of Apple’s new processor may yield significantly better battery life compared to the phones that include the Samsung-built chip. But, the issue is to find out which A9 chip is in your iPhone – Samsung or TSMC.

How to Check if your iPhone has TSMC or Samsung’s A9 chip

Literally, both the chips offer same compute and graphics power, still, there are some notable differences in the battery manufactured by TSMC and Samsung. Are you using Apple iPhone 6s or 6s Plus? Step 5: Just Check the ID number of your device under the Device option.

Step 6: The model name that is displayed on the screen will tell you whether your device is running on TSMC or Samsung A9 chip. Check out the models given below:

  • N66mAP – iPhone 6s Plus with A9 chip manufactured by TSMC.
  • N66AP – iPhone 6s Plus with A9 chip manufactured by Samsung.
  • N71mAP – iPhone 6s with A9 chip manufactured by TSMC.
  • N71AP – iPhone 6s with A9 chip manufactured by Samsung.

Step 7: In the above-shown image, the model is N66mAP which means your device’s A9 chip is manufactured by TSMC.

Step 8: That’s it, you can now find out which A9 chipset is being used on your iPhone.

This is the simple way to check whether your iPhone is running A9 chip manufactured by Samsung or its rival TSMC. By using the free app, Battery Memory System Status, you can find the manufacturer of A9 chip on your Apple iPhone. There is another app called Lirum Device Info Lite, which is an elegant application to retrieve specifications of your device. Hope this tutorial helps you in the best way to check whether your iPhone is running on A9 chip manufactured by Samsung or TSMC.
