A9 Chipset is Dual-Sourced – Samsung & TSMC
The tech giant, Apple has used two different suppliers to build the Apple-designed ‘A9’ system-on-a-chip for the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. The two sources are Samsung and TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company). A9 chips manufactured by these two different suppliers slightly vary in size and indeed there are differences between the Samsung and TSMC made chips. It was found that the TSMC version of Apple’s new processor may yield significantly better battery life compared to the phones that include the Samsung-built chip. How to Check if your iPhone has TSMC or Samsung’s A9 chip

Step 1: Initially, Download Battery Memory System Status Monitor from the Apple’s App Store.
Step 2: Launch the Battery Memory System Status Monitor app on your device.
Step 3: Just tap on the Tab named System which is at the top of the screen.
Step 4: You can view information such as the model, name, OS, Kernel, CPUs present on the device, Cache Line Size, L1 Cache Size etc of your iPhone.
Step 5: Just Check the ID number of your device under the Device option.
Step 6: The model name that is displayed on the screen will tell you whether your device is running on TSMC or Samsung A9 chip. Check out the models given below:

- N66AP – iPhone 6s Plus with A9 chip manufactured by Samsung.

Step 7: In the above-shown image, the model is N66mAP which means your device’s A9 chip is manufactured by TSMC.
Step 8: That’s it, you can now find out which A9 chipset is being used on your iPhone.
