1. Delete numbers in the Calculator app:
When you’re typing in iOS’ calculator and make a mistake, you probably get frustrated at the lack of a backspace button. However, you don’t have to erase the whole string of numbers if you make a mistake and have to start over again. You can delete individual digits as you type—the function is just hidden behind a gesture.
Just swipe to the left or right across the screen, where the numbers appear. This will delete your most recently typed digit. Every single swipe will delete the last digit. So if you make a mistake, you can correct it without starting over.
2. Stop music with a timer:
This is a cool feature for those of you who enjoy falling asleep to music. Using the hidden ‘Stop Playing’ timer, you can choose how long you want the music to play for as you drift off to sleep.
Simply open the Clock app, slide along to the Timer options. Here under the ‘When Time Ends’ tag, scroll to the bottom to choose the ‘Stop Playing’ option. Here, you can set the timer for how long you want the music to play. This will turn off the tunes, be it through Apple Music or Spotify when the timer hits zero.
Now you can fall asleep listening to your favorite songs or a podcast without worrying that the music will play all night, also draining your battery in the process.
3. iMessage timestamps to See when a message was sent:
Normally you’ll be able to see what date and at what time the first message was sent. However, to reveal each individual message after that, you’ll need to quickly glance at the timestamps.
Within the Messages app, tap on the message thread that you’d like to view a particular timestamp for. Now swipe your finger from right to left to reveal the timestamps of each individual message.
4. Creating a custom vibration
Ever wished you could tell who’s calling you just by how your phone vibrates, without taking your phone out of your pocket? Now you can.
By default, your iPhone uses standard vibration pulses for a text message or calls. However, if you want to create your own vibration patterns, follow the below procedure.
In Contacts, select your person of choice and then tap the Edit button in the top-right corner. Here you’ll see a Vibration option. Selecting this will give you plenty of built-in vibration patterns you can choose from, including the’ Create New Vibration’ tool.
To add a custom pattern, tap ‘Create New Vibration.’ Start recording, and tap the center of the screen in the sequence you want the vibration to be and create your own rhythm. Once you’re done, stop recording and save your pattern. It will be stored in the Vibration section (Ringtone menu) among the list of custom patterns.
5. Recording a video while the screen is locked:
If you don’t want other people to notice you recording video or taking pictures, do as follows:
- First of all, make sure your iPhone is locked.
- Press the Shutter button, slide the bottom right camera icon halfway up and don’t let go.
- Keeping your finger on the camera slider mode still halfway up, slide the camera mode to video.
- Now double click the ‘Home button’ 3 times.
- Keep your finger still halfway on the slider until the iPhone turns off its screen. Remember, your iPhone is already recording a video.
- If you want to end the recording, simply unlock the iPhone as usual.
6. Clear RAM to make your phone run faster:
To do this, you should follow these simple steps:
- Press and hold the Power button until you see the “Slide to power off” message.
- After that, release the Power button, then press and hold down the Home button until the screen goes blank.

- Set the filter back to None to disable low light mode.
13. Use the Compass app as a Spirit level:
In addition to the calculator, flashlight, and compass, your iPhone also has a hidden spirit level built into it. If you swipe from right to left within the Compass app, you’ll be presented with a very useful spirit level – a digital bubble gauge than can check if that shelf really is level.
The iPhone uses its Gyroscope to determine the level of the surface the iPhone is placed on. You’ll have the opportunity to calibrate it on a flat surface before assessing the situation.
14. Hard-Reset your iPhone when it crashes:
Everyone has probably experienced the situation when your phone hangs, gets frozen, and refuses to work. Give your iPhone a little rest.
To do this, hold down the power button and the volume down button at the same time until the screen turns off (it can take up to 10 seconds). Once you’re done, your iPhone will reboot and spring back into life.
