It’s been only a few days since the iPhone X launched worldwide, but we have already started to hear some of the problems that users are facing with Apple’s new flagship model. After reporting issues like the green line of death (green line running down the outer edge of the handset’s display), GPS problems, and unresponsive screen in cold weather (display becoming unresponsive for a few seconds in cold weather), some iPhone X owners have been complaining about hearing “crackling” or “buzzing” sounds from the device’s front-facing earpiece speaker.
MacRumors reports that a limited but increasing number of iPhone X users claim to be experiencing “crackling” or “buzzing” sounds coming from their iPhone X’s earpiece speaker, primarily at high or max volumes. And apparently, the crackling sound is said to be heard with any kind of audio playback, including alarms, music, phone calls, ringtones, and videos with sound.
Over two dozen users have said they are affected by this issue, in a MacRumors discussion topic about the matter, while similar reports have surfaced on Twitter and Reddit since the iPhone X launched. MacRumors reported that few forum members have also reported the issue.

While the sounds could be the result of distortion, especially since they occur at higher volumes only, several users are convinced that there could be a bigger software or hardware issue affecting the earpiece.
In September 2017, some early iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus users had also reported a similar crackling sounds issue, but it only occurred during voice-calls and was quickly resolved by Apple with an iOS update (iOS 11.0.2). It should be noted that iPhone X came preinstalled with iOS 11.0.3, so it could have included the fix.
Apple is currently replacing the affected iPhone X units free of charge and collecting diagnostic information so that their engineers can investigate the matter, as it routinely does with any potential software or hardware issues.
