It’s Official: OnePlus 6 Will Be Launched on May 17

There have been several rumors about OnePlus 6’s launch date and over the past few weeks, the Smartphone lovers have seen a spread in the number of teasers for the OnPlus  6. However, the Chinese Smartphone maker officially announced the launch date on their website and revealed the details of the event. OnePlus 6, the updated flagship Smartphone from the Smartphone makers, is set to be launched on May 17. Thus, this finally puts a rest to the conflicting release dates suggested by different rumors.


OnePlus’ Chinese website currently features an official teaser with the tagline ‘The Speed You Need’ for the OnePlus 6 launch event. The launch event is set for 10 AM local time (or 7.30AM IST) at 751D-Park, Beijing, China. The website further reveals that OnePlus event will be open to the public and fans. The makers need to buy tickets for the launch event, starting April 27 via the OnePlus app.

People who manage to book a ticket will receive an invitation code, a 99 yuan accessory gift card, and many more. Later, the fans can expect OnePlus to continue its tradition and plan events for the OnePlus 6 launch across the globe. This development comes within a week of OnePlus’s exclusive partner Amazon India confirming the OnePlus 6 India launch will be “soon,” and putting up a dedicated web page for the handset.

What’s New In OnePlus 6?

OnePlus smartphones have been doing great so far because of its high-end hardware and relatively affordable price tag. The OnePlus 6 is confirmed to feature a glass body, different from the all-metal design decorated by the previous flagships. This should also give way for Wireless Charging support, a first for a OnePlus flagship device. It is said that the glass body has been reportedly chosen from 70 prototypes and the final product will feature 5 layers of nanotech coating to give a better feel of depth on the rear glass.

1. Design:

The handset’s glass design will offer a ‘sense of value’ and ‘premium hand-feel’ and the glass black contains five printed layers of Nanotech Coating, a first in the smartphone industry. These additional layers give the back of device a stronger impression of depth that the users appreciate.

2. Updated System-on-Chip and more storage:

The teaser confirms that the phone will deliver “the speed you need”, likely a nod to its the handset’s Snapdragon 845 internals. A Snapdragon 845 SoC is teamed with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage which is the highest-spec variant of the device.

3. Camera:

The handset will feature a telephoto lens enabling the camera to capture photos with a natural bokeh effect. According to earlier rumors, the OnePlus 6 will sport a dual-lens camera setup comprising of 20MP and 16MP lenses.

Now, let us discuss the specifications. The OnePlus 6 is almost confirmed to feature a markup front on its 6-inch AMOLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. According to the reports, the device is said to be coming with Snapdragon 845, that’s coupled with up to 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. And it is expected to have 3,450 mAh battery. A dual camera setup comprised of 16MP + 20MP sensors. There is still no word on pricing.

It has confirmed that its partnership with Marvel to launch ‘Avenger-themed‘ OnePlus 6 devices. This official announcement puts all the confusion to rest and reveals when the new flagship device will actually be unveiled to the world. This is not the first time, a OnePlus flagship launch has been in the news, in the past, OnePlus has held multiple events for the launch of its flagship smartphones and this year should not be any different. OnePlus 6 is expected to bring a major redesign to the OnePlus family this year with the smartphone dropping the all-metal design in favor of a glass back.
