With the launch of Windows 10 Fall Creator Update, which is expected to arrive in September this year, the company is making every effort to make it secure against hackers and cyber attacks. It has already planned to build AI-powered antivirus software, add a new anti-ransomware feature, etc. Among many, one of the interesting feature to be added is the Pin and Password recovery option directly from the lock screen, for users that use a Microsoft account to log into their computer.
Yes, Microsoft is finally adding this much-awaited features to Windows 10, which will let you recover your Microsoft Account, allowing you to reset your Windows password directly from the lock screen.
As of now, if you’ve forgotten your Microsoft Account password at the Windows login screen, you are prompted to reset it from the web using another PC. Now, with this new Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, you will be able to recover it directly from the lock screen, without the need for a secondary Windows 10 device.
The new password recovery option will be available in the latest preview build of Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, and it will be displayed alongside the sign-in options link, mspoweruser confirmed.
Microsoft has designed the whole process to be intuitive, once users click on the option that reads “I forgot my password,” they are provided with a wizard guiding them throughout the entire process, with Cortana asking for password recovery information, including secondary email, phone number, or Microsoft Authenticator verification code. A verification code will be sent to the option you chose, and once you verified, you will be able to reset the password and that’s pretty much it. You can then regain access to your computer directly from the login screen.
The tech giant is currently testing this new feature in its Windows 10 Insiders build 16237.
