At its September 2017 event, held at the Steve Jobs theatre, Apple unveiled the much-anticipated all-new fifth-generation Apple TV device, which will bring new features like 4K and HDR to Apple TV for the first time. With its new Apple TV 4K, the company is bringing improved picture quality for 4k screens.
Introducing the new Apple TV 4K, Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services, said, “Bring the magic of the cinema straight to your living room with the new Apple TV 4K.”
There will be two different models of the Apple TV 4K. One will have a 32GB internal storage and the other will have 64GB internal storage. Take a quick look at new features, specifications, release date, and price.
Apple TV 4K: Features & Specifications:
4K and HDR video support:
The new Apple TV will be capable of playing 4K Ultra HD content, as well as offering “more vivid” colors in video and games, thanks to the support for HDR (high dynamic range) through Dolby Vision and HDR10. The new Apple TV 4K also allows access to 4K films and TV on iTunes, along with 4K content from Netflix, and Amazon Prime later in 2017.
The 4K content on iTunes will cost exactly the same as its HD equivalents, and that anyone who has already bought HD films and shows will have them automatically upgraded to 4K for free.
Faster processor
The Apple TV 4K runs on the A10X Fusion chip (the same found in the iPad Pro), which Apple says should offer more than double the CPU performance, and more than four times the GPU performance to drive the 4K HDR output.
Features
- Support for both Dolby Vision and HDR10 ensures users can enjoy incredible-looking TV shows and movies on any HDR TV.
- Built-in high-performance 4K video scaler, makes HD content look better than ever on a 4K TV.
- Automatic detection of a 4K TV’s capabilities optimizes setup for the best quality picture.
- Always outputting to the highest resolution possible, allows viewers to get the most out of their TV, whether it’s an older HDTV or the latest 4K Dolby Vision OLED.

- Live sports and live news are also coming to Apple TV as part of tvOS 11.
