Google released its lightweight and fast version of Google Assistant called Google Assistant Go for Android Go platform in the play store.
For those unaware of Android Go, it is a lightweight and optimized version of Android Oreo designed for lesser hardware phones ( RAM ), which was introduced by Google, back in may at the Google I/O 2017.
The Assistant Go is capable of performing tasks such as making calls, sending text messages, playing music, navigating to places, knowing the weather and general information, just as Google Assistant.
But, as this new application is an optimized version and occupies less storage, it doesn’t support few functionalities that are available on the Google Assistant for standard Android phones. The Go version doesn’t support reminders, controls for smart home devices, Actions on Google, and Device Actions.
Currently, the app supports only English language. However, it will support French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai and more languages in the near future.
Assistant Go isn’t the first go version of an app that Google released for Android Go. The other optimized version apps include Files Go, Gboard Go, Google Go, Google Maps Go and YouTube Go which are already available in the Play Store. All of these apps are designed to improve the performance of lesser hardware devices by freeing up half of the internal storage space when compared to the regular versions.
