Google has launched a new member to its family that is Home Mini at the Made By Google Event. Home mini will be a smaller and cheaper version of Google Home and it is powered by Google Assistant.
Barely a week after Amazon announced its Echo devices, Google has launched its smart speaker, Home Mini. Definitely, the mini was designed to compete with Amazon Echo Dot. The mini very much looks like a mesh wrapped skipping stone or pebble. It will be available in three colors “Coral”, “Charcoal” and “chalk”. The design and colors of the Home mini are much attractive than Echo Dot. With the miniature dimensions, it can be easily hidden behind a table clock, scented candle and etc.
Home mini can be activated by tapping on its surface. Tapping on left and right adjusts the volume and tapping on the top of the surface pauses it. There are 4 LED lights at the bottom of mesh fabric which indicate that the device is active. It can do all the things that can be done with a Google Home such as setting reminders and timers, news updates and music. But the sound quality of a mini speaker is not as good as the Echo Dot. It can be heard well in a medium-sized room. Home mini can be connected wirelessly through Bluetooth to listen to music. Although you wouldn’t really want to use it for music purpose. Coming to the charging part of the device, it can be charged with a Micro USB.
Google Home Mini costs $49 which is almost the same price as Amazon Echo Dot. The pre-orders started from October 4 and will be available at offline retailers from October 19.
