After many speculations and leaks, Google has finally launched its second-generation Pixel smartphones, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL at the latest ‘Made By Google’ Event in San Francisco. The two phones will take on the likes of iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, Samsung Galaxy Note 8, and LG V30, among others.
The search giant, which has been nurturing hardware dreams, is mixing hardware, software and its brand of artificial intelligence across its products to offer a new experience for users.
Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are refined, improved versions of last year’s models, adding a few features and removing a few as well. The Pixel 2 XL is an inch larger than Pixel 2. Otherwise, the two models match in virtually every way. Both the devices have an all aluminum body. The power button is now differently colored. Both devices are IP68 water resistant and have improved on battery life.
Storage options include 64GB and 128GB capacities, with lifelong unlimited online storage for photos and videos. People can even upload 4K content. Google Lens allows users to take pictures of text convert it to its digital form. Like you can save contact details. Pixel 2 will have a portrait mode that uses just one camera. AR Stickers are also coming. That will make selfies fun.
Just like the recent iPhones, the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL are going to come without the 3.5mm headphone jack. You can add the same using an adapter.
Both the phones have an Always-On display, and Android Oreo out-of-the-box, with support for minimum 3 years of OS and security updates. There is also a new feature called ‘Active Edge’ that lets you squeeze the phone to turn on Google Assistant, similar to the squeezable display of HTC U11.
