As part of Microsoft’s Garage project, the company released a new app called Photos Companion which is designed to sync photos from phone to PC but not the other way around. The app is used to transfer pictures wirelessly from mobiles to Windows 10 photos app. Photos Companion is available for both Android and iOS mobiles on their respective app stores immediately.
This is an experimental app designed specifically for students who are finding it difficult to project the content they captured with their phone onto PCs, said Microsoft. The app isn’t suitable for those who are already backing up their photos using cloud services like OneDrive. However, a Microsoft account is necessary for using OneDrive while the latter doesn’t require one.
So, here’s how to transfer photos from Android or an iOS mobile directly to a Windows 10 PC. But before beginning make sure that both the devices are connected to the same WiFi.
Android/ iOS Phone:
- Install the app on your mobile and then make sure both the devices are connected to the same network before sending the data.
- Open the app, tap the “Send Photos” button.
- Scan the QR code on your PC.
- Now, select the photos and videos that you want to send to your Windows 10 PC.
- Click “Done” to transfer the selected files.
Windows 10:
1.Firstly, turn on the network sharing on your Windows 10 PC.
2. Go to Photos app > Three-dot button > Settings.
3. Toggle the “Help Microsoft test the mobile import over WiFi feature” button to On.
4. Restart the Photos app.
5. Now, Click the Import option in the top right corner of the app and select “From mobile over WiFi” from the options.
This is the procedure to transfer the data from mobile to Windows 10 PC. But the other way around isn’t possible.
