Snapchat is one of the most popular social media platforms, with a user active user base of 191 million. People share pictures, videos, and emojis with other users which usually lasts less than 10 seconds. They vanish in the thin digital air. The app is much loved with people who want to capture short and wild moments. And Well, it has been serving its purpose well.

However, with changing times and market pressure from companies like Facebook, the app is always in a race of bringing out brand-new features with new additions every couple months like- group chats, map tracking, streaks and unlimited contextual features, AR filters, etc.

Interestingly, all these features when used properly fetch you “scores”. Now, new users, these new numbers can be very confusing as Snapchat doesn’t come with an instruction manual. Here i will be explaining all these numbers scattered all over the app both iOS and Android.

SNAPCHAT SCORES FOR DUMMIES

Let’s start with the home screen, open up Snapchat app on your Android or iOS device.

This is how the screen looks like after you start up Snapchat app:

As you can notice these ‘seemingly’ random numbers just below your personal display name, these numbers change from time to time and are always rising. That my friend is your Snapchat score, a number which is regarded as a batch of honour by users. It highlights the seniority and status, a Snapchatter holds over other people.

What Snapchat Score rises, and What it is based on

In simple terms, the more you use Snapchat the more you gain points. Officially, there is no explanation by Snapchat on how the point value system works. As per their support page on the topic:

“Your Snapchat score is determined by a super secret special equation that combines the number of Snaps you’ve sent and received, the Stories you’ve posted, and a couple other factors ?”

After doing some research and personal usage, here are few of the checkpoints you should focus on to increase your score:

  • When you send or receive snaps, in general, it counts as a point each
  • Sending snaps to many or all your friends won’t fetch multiple points.
  • Posting a story on Snapchat increases your score by a point.
  • Reviewing your own chat/stories or other people’s stories won’t have any impact on your score.

Now you know what to do, so go ahead and get your score soaring!

More “Numbers” involved in Snapchat:

Snapchat Streak

To be short and precise, a Snapchat Streak is an indication of the bonding between two friends/Snapchat users. When you keep on sending and receiving pictures, videos etc from a particular friend of yours on a daily basis, then a small fire icon along with the number of days shows up around your profile.

You can also see the time when the last story was posted by any of your friends.

Now when you open the camera interface in Snapchat and click on the discover section, here you can see the total number of snaps you have shared with your friends.

When you move on to the “My Story” section, on the right side you will be able to see the number of people who have viewed your story and on the left end, you can see the ‘time passed” after the story was posted.
