Telegram owes this success to not only the extra security that it brings over its rivals like WhatsApp, but also the tons of new features that the service keeps on adding and updating according to the user requirements.
The telegram app has the range of unique features that may not be as evident for every user. The introduction of new features means that some of them are pretty hidden and normal users don’t know anything about them. 1. Lock Your Chats:
People who have privacy concerns can make use of this trick that keeps their chats private. The telegram app has become much popular for its focus on privacy. The service provides end-to-end encryption on the server side and also allows users to lock their chats. It is a built-in feature to natively lock the chats with a passcode that restricts the unauthorized access to your chats.
To lock a chat, go to Settings -> Privacy and Security -> Passcode Lock and enable it. Once you create a passcode and enable it, you will be able to lock and unlock your chats by tapping on the lock icon at the top right of the app. It also has the auto-lock time, which will auto lock the chats when the time ends.
2. Upload Multiple Profile Photos:
This is one of the best tricks that most people like. Do you know that Telegram allows you to upload multiple profile pictures? Yes, you can do it. All you need to do is, Open the Settings in the app and tap on the Camera to upload a photo. Doing the same again, you can upload the second photo without removing the first photo.
For your friends, the latest picture can be seen as your profile picture but they can swipe to see rest of your photos as shown in the image below.
3. Use Multiple Telegram Accounts:
After supporting multiple themes, Telegram had gone further to maintain multiple accounts on a single device. You can add up to three accounts with different phone numbers to your Telegram app, and then quickly switch between them from the side menu. To add a new account to your existing account, tap on the hamburger menu on the top left and tap on the arrow button beside your name and click on Add Account. Now you have to enter the new number and hit the check mark button below to sync your contacts. Wait for an OTP and then enter it in the required field.
On the next page enter your name and hit the check mark button and it’s done. To switch between the accounts, just tap on the hamburger menu and select the account you want to choose. But this feature is only available for Android users, so iOS users cannot enjoy this feature currently.
4. Send Mute Messages:
This feature is also an eye-catching one that helps you especially during the nights or in meetings. It is also called as sending silent messages. It is specifically designed for those times when you want to send a message to a friend but concerned about notifying and not disturbing them. Use this feature and send messages that don’t make a notification sound on the recipient’s device.
To send mute messages, tap on the Hamburger Menu and select New Channel. Now name your channel and confirm. You can either make the channel “Private” or “Public”. Add the recipients from the list or by searching their username and type your message and click the “Bell” Icon and Send.
5. Photo Editing Before Sending:
This is one feature that girls and women love a lot. Telegram offers an inbuilt photo editor that will be good enough for you to share some amazing, quality pictures with your friends and family. This trick allows you to add captions, crop photo and edit it before sending. The photo editor allows you to adjust the contrast, saturation, tint, exposure and much more features of the photo.
To edit your photos before you send: Click on the “Attach File” in your chat and Select the “Camera” button and click the desired photo from the gallery and you will be directed to the Photo Editor, where you can Crop the picture, Adjust the Exposure, Contrast, Brightness, and Doodle. You can also use Telegram Masks which will be positioned in the right place on the picture you have selected.
6. Editing The Send Messages:
This feature is a farewell to the typos. How often have you sent a message to a friend or colleague and then realized it’s filled with typos?
Those people don’t need to worry when they have Telegram app. Here you can edit the text of your messages after sending them. This works across all Telegram chats, including groups and one-on-one conversations. To edit a sent message, simply tap and hold on the message. You will see a menu with an ‘edit’ option in it.
The message appears in the typing area and you can now edit and resend it. But, Telegram affixes a label as “edited” to the message which is visible to the recipient(s).
7. Use The Bots:
These are the Telegram accounts that can be coded to perform certain actions and make the user experience a bit more functional. Bots set Telegram apart from rest in the messaging app universe. With these bots, users can play games, broadcast, fetch information, etc.
Tap on new message and type in the name of any bot by adding “@” as a prefix. For example, type in “@imdb game of Thrones” to get the information on Game of Thrones. 8. Stop Being Added To Unknown Groups And Channels:

Go to the Privacy and Security settings and open the Groups option. Now specify whether Everybody can add you to a group or just Your Contacts or a specific person.
9. Secret Chat:
As said in the beginning, security is the most thing in messaging apps. Here Telegram provides Private chat facility to all users, you can enable private chat via tapping on the user profile.
