Facebook launched its standalone Events app rebranded as Local.
We all know that Facebook shrouded its app with a bunch of features. To avoid any hassles, the company introduced a standalone app called Events last year which lets the users to browse the nearby events and happenings and also displays the device calendars. But the app wasn’t a hit as it displayed redundant events on the main Facebook app and ruled out some fun events.
Facebook Product Manager, Aditya Koolwal made a statement that the Facebook Events couldn’t make it above #139 on the social networking sites charts and got only around 100,000 downloads.
Now Facebook is giving another try to make the app a hit. The Events app is relaunched as Facebook Local which is available on iOS and Android stores. Facebook Local will include the features of Events and also allows finding restaurants or any permanent places easily through the Facebook-powered search engine which gathers the information from 70 million business pages reviews and check-ins made by friends the user’s friends list.
The app features nearby restaurants, drinks, cafes, and more shortcuts on its homepage. It also includes nearby friends just the snap map of Snapchat and trending Events feed, nightlife, art and many other events. All your calendar events will be synced to the app to avoid switching between many apps. Currently, ordering food through the app feature is not included.
And all the features of the standalone Facebook Local app will be reflected on Facebook too. Installing the app helps to segregate the things. With the improved version of the app, it’s going to be a competition to the Yelp app.
