iOS 11 Takes Less Storage Space Compared To iOS 10. It Will Help Increase Storage Capacity

Apple has announced the key features, major upgrades and improvements of iOS 11 on stage, but the company didn’t mention the smaller refinements made to the iOS 11. Here is one such small refinement which really makes the platform pop, but Apple didn’t mention it on the stage. It is the fact that iOS 11 seems to take up less storage space on installed devices, compared to iOS 10.

We have already discussed in our previous articles about the redesigned storage management system in iOS 11, which makes it easy to view storage consumption in greater detail on your iPhone — and even easier to free up storage space with surgical precision. In the updated storage management system, Apple now gives you recommendations on ways to free up space on your iPhone, like auto-deleting old conversations in Messages, emptying your “Recently Deleted” album in Photos, or storing your messages in iCloud.

Now, what if we say that rather than actually bloating the platform and claiming additional space, iOS 11 actually has some intelligent engineering within it to actually save space, resulting in the user getting more of that precious device capacity back for the installation of additional apps, updates, new iOS versions,  or storage of photos and videos? Really an interesting update isn’t it!

Here is a side-by-side comparison between iOS 10 and iOS 11 on a 16GB iPhone 6s, which shows that the user is left with 12.23 GB of available storage space on iOS 10, but 12.78 GB on a device running iOS 11.

We are not saying that it’s going to instantly provide gigabytes of device storage back to users, but every little storage space helps for those iPhone owners who are on the entry-level 16GB version of the hardware. The mileage will definitely vary though depending on device model and storage capacity.
