Oppo has announced the launch of the Oppo R5 in India, which is touted to be the world’s slimmest smartphone measuring just 4.85 mm thick. The handset has a stainless steel body with a hand-polished micro-arc frame. The device has a 5.2 inch AMOLED display with resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The smartphone is powered by the octa core Snapdragon 615 processor with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage.
The ultra-thin Oppo R5 has been launched in India for a price of Rs. 29,990 .Unlike other Chinese players, Oppo isn’t going the online exclusive route, and has announced that Oppo R5 will be available for pre-order from Jan 1st 2015.
Display :
The R5 comes with a 5.2-inch 1080p Full HD AMOLED display, which takes the pixel density to as high as 423ppi. It is powered by a 64-bit, octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor and 2GB of RAM.
Software and Hardware
The R5 runs Color OS 2.0 that is based on Android 4.4 KitKat. Just like most Chinese brands, it is a customised version of Android with lots of themes. On the specs front, it packs in a 64-bit, octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor and 2GB of RAM.
Camera and Battery
The phone sports a 13MP rear camera with Sony Exmor IMX214 BSI sensor and a 5MP front facing camera with 83degree wide angle lens. It runs Color OS 2.0, based on Android 4.4 and has a 2000mAh battery. The phone feature Oppo’s VOOC charging technology to get a 75% charge in 30 minutes.
Connectivitiy
In terms of connectivity options, the phone features 4G LTE (including Indian 4G bands), 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. Oppo R5 also doesn’t feature a 3.5mm audio jack but the company ships a USB-to-3.5mm audio adaptor with the phone.

Although it has some cool tricks up its sleeve, you’ll be paying a premium more for its slim and sleek design than anything else. It competes directly with the likes of Gionee Elife S5.1 and Vivo X5 Max. Considering the global price of $499, we must say that Oppo has done well to keep the pricing of R5 pretty competitive, but you’ll still be paying a lot of money.
