The American gaming company, Niantic Labs is working on its next game, based on J.K. Rowling’s famous fantasy novel series, Harry Potter. The company has confirmed it’s making a new AR game called “Harry Potter: Wizards Unite” that is set to launch in 2018, in cooperation with Warner Brothers Interactive and its new sub-brand Portkey Games.

Just like Pokemon GO, the new Harry Potter AR game will allow players to roam across the real world collecting power-ups, defending locations, and exploring their environment. They will be able to learn new spells and team with other wizards and take part in supernatural battles against legendary beasts.

“Players will learn spells, explore their real-world neighborhoods and cities to discover & fight legendary beasts and team up with others to take down powerful enemies,” reads a post on Niantic Labs’ website.

The company said in an announcement that the game would help people achieve their dreams of becoming real-life wizards.

Niantic Labs is among the companies which have leveraged the benefits of augmented reality to the fullest. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is the third AR-powered game from Niantic Labs, after Ingress and Pokemon GO. Niantic has said it was the success of Pokemon Go, and its “unprecedented scale,” that made this development possible.

An official site for Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is now online, which has a section to sign up for details on the game.
