Coaxial Cable to HDMI — (2020 Comprehensive Guide)

Coaxial cables are electronic peripherals. These are also called coax cables. It’s a type of electrical cable that’s designed to transmit and receive radio frequencies from 2 varying points. A coaxial cable can also carry a digital signal.

You can use these signals for cable TV, Internet connections, and other forms of technologies. Particular types of coaxial cables are integrated with features for several applications. These may be used for both commercial and residential purposes.

Both HDMI and coaxial cables work on two different signals. For example, a converter can change an analog coaxial signal into a digital HDMI signal. If you want to connect a programming source using a coaxial cable to your TV that has an HDMI output, then you can change the plugs.

How to Convert a Coaxial Cable to HDMI

  • Connect the coaxial cable to your signal adapter box. You can do this by connecting the cable coupler towards the threaded jack on the box, then turning it clockwise using your hands;
  • Connect the other half of the coaxial cable to a compatible signal source. These include a satellite TV or a receiver box for cable TV;
  • You can now plug in an HDMI cable into the adapter box. Make sure that the broader end of the cable is turned upwards. That’s because you can only insert an HDMI plug-in one direction;
  • Connect the other half of the HDMI cable to a port found on the back of a TV, a computer monitor, or some other video device. The broader end of the plug also has to be turned upwards. If your monitor or TV contains more than one HDMI input, then you need to remember which one of these fits a coaxial cable connection; and
  • At this point, you have to plug the adapter, along with the TV, inside a surge protector power strip. This should be connected to a wall outlet.

The converter will deliver the analog signal from the coaxial cable, and then change it into a digital signal for HDMI. These will show up with the cables connected, or through the sockets attached for every cable on both ends. There are individual converters out there that can perform a straight conversion, going from one signal to another. Meanwhile, others will require scaling, bringing in a standard definition coax signal then change it into an HD one.

About Coaxial Cables & HDMI

Coaxial cables were first introduced during the early 20th century. At first, they were mainly used for attaching satellite antennas and facilities to business areas and homes. This is because they’re so easy to install and are made from very durable material.

Meanwhile, its high-definition multimedia interface, also known as HDMI, is a type of connectivity standard that has been around since 2002. The standardized HDMI cable comes with a 19-pin plug-and-go connection. These all have their respective simple structures, all comprising of nine bottom pins, and ten top pins.

You can fit them to the HDMI port to create a connection, similar to attaching a USB flash drive to your computer. An HDMI carries a digital signal.

Coaxial connections, on the other hand, tend to generate stronger audio quality, compared to optical ones. This provides a more significant amount of detail, not to mention higher dynamics.

However, things are so much more convenient today. Users all around the world are now using HDMI as a way to connect all things. And it’s so much difficult now to argue against it, especially if all of your current appliances and devices use this type of socket.
